Amidst controversy, Assam government has decided in principle to adopt the song 'O Mur Apunar Dex' as Asom Rajyik Jatiyo Sangeet (anthem).
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has instructed Chief Secretary Jitesh Khosla to place the matter for approval in the next cabinet meeting.
The song 'O Mur Apunar Dex' is written by eminent litterateur Lakshminath Bezbaruah and is sung in government functions and educational institutions along with the national anthem.
A controversy arose leading to media criticism over a reply to an RTI query that the song is not the anthem of the Assam government.
