An Assistant Commandant of Meghalaya Police Battalion was arrested in West Garo Hills district for allegedly molesting a newly recruited police woman, police said today.
The incident took place on Saturday evening inside the 2nd Meghalaya Police Battalion in Goeragre in the district and an FIR was lodged later that day, they said.
"We have arrested Assistant Commandant Gilbirth Marak and he was remanded to 14 days judicial custody by a local court today," Battalion Commander Aditya Goenka, told PTI.
The officer was posted at Goeragre in West Garo hills district before he was arrested on Sunday after a new woman recruit filed an FIR against him alleging that the officer had attempted to molest her the previous evening, Goenka said.
According to the victim, Marak had called her to his residential quarter within the premises of the 2nd Battalion in Goeragre and attempted to "outrage her modesty".
