At least 50 dead in hurricane-hit Haiti town: local official

Hurricane Matthew has claimed at least 50 lives in the southern Haiti town of Roche-a-Bateau, a local official said today.
"The whole southern coast of Haiti, from the town of Les Cayes to Tiburon, is devastated," Pierre-Louis Ostin, deputy for the Sud department, told AFP by telephone.
The provisional death toll from the storm previously stood at 23 in Haiti, but looked certain to climb as officials reach cut-off communities blasted by the storm two days ago.
