Attack will not cow down NC cadres: Farooq

Union minister and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah today said the militant attack on an NC leader's house in Pulwama district will not cow down his party cadres.
"We have seen lot of guns and bombs, but we are not afraid of these attacks," Abdullah told reporters after addressing an election meeting at Chanapora here.
Abdullah said security remains a concern everywhere during polls, but ruled out Pakistan's plans to carry out such attacks to disturb the ongoing elections in the state.
"I have full hope that our neighbour [Pakistan] will not carry out any such attack in our elections. Our neighbour will not put any hurdle in our elections," he said.

"I see that our neighbour will not do such a thing (attack). What would I tell you as to who would do such things, you should have the brains to think who will do such things," the Union minister said.
The NC president said those who stand to lose in the elections will try every trick in the book to demoralise the party workers. "Those who are on the verge of losing (the elections), will try every trick in the book to demoralise us (NC activists). But we will not be demoralised," he said.

Two militants opened fire at the residence of NC's youth wing leader Yawar Masoodi at Khrew in Pulwama, 35 kms from here, this afternoon. Two policemen posted on security duty were killed in the attack and the two militants were also gunned down by security forces in a gun-battle later.

The attack took place when Masoodi, who is organiser of the party's youth wing in South Kashmir, was holding a party meeting at his residence.
Abdullah, who is contesting the Lok Sabha polls from the Srinagar-Budgam constituency, also attacked his opponent, PDP's Tariq Hamid Karra, for acquiring property worth crores.
"I was chief minister for three terms but I don't have one crore rupees. Whatever property I own is my ancestral. Where did he get this money from?" he asked.
Karra, who filed his nomination papers on Wednesday, declared total assets worth around Rs 100 crore, which 10 times more than that of Abdullah.

Srinagar goes to polls on April 30.
