Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh today termed as "unfortunate" the alleged attempts to "glorify" Nathuram Godse when the world was following the path of non-violence shown by Mahatma Gandhi.
"The whole world is following the path of non-violence shown by Mahatma Gandhi. But there is a section of people in the country who are trying to glorify his assassin, Nathuram Godse, which is unfortunate," he said at an event.
"These people are trying to disturb the communal harmony, the foundation of which was laid by Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru," he said at an event organised by NGO Observer Peace Foundation.
Singh's remarks came in the backdrop of the BJP-led Goa government's plan to release a book on Godse, which was earlier scheduled for today on the occasion of the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation but put off following protests by social organisations and political parties.
Criticising the NDA government's ambitious scheme to develop 100 smart cities, he said "till there are no smart villages, smart cities alone won't help the development of the country.
