Opposition National Conference (NC) in Jammu and Kashmir today claimed that attempts were being made to change the demography of the state and vowed that it will resist such efforts strongly.
"Attempts are being made to change the special status of the state. Some parties have plans to alter the demography of the state, which will happen over our bodies. People must be made aware of these conspiracies," NC general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar said here.
He said that his party is committed to foil any such attempts.
He was addressing a function in memory of Sheikh Nazir, a former general secretary of the party and uncle of former chief minister Omar Abdullah.
Sagar also took at the PDP-BJP alliance. He claimed that by allying with PDP, BJP has "clear cut plans to erode the identity and the multi-pluralistic culture of the state".
He also said that revocation of Article 370 will "weaken the integrity of the country and pose a serious threat to peace in the state".
He also questioned the separatist leaders for maintaining silence after Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed credited them and the militants for the smooth conduct of assembly elections.
"Why are they (Hurriyat leaders) silent on this issue? They have not responded to what Sayeed has said. If at all they have helped him in the elections, then why do not they respond," he asked.
