MNS chief Raj Thackeray has expelled the party's Aurangabad unit chief following reports of his alleged involvement in the dumping of poisonous industrial waste into a river there.
"I recently heard about poisonous substance being released into a river in Aurangabad and the worst part was that the city unit chief of MNS, Sumit Khambekar, was involved in the incident...," according to a statement issued by Thackeray yesterday.
"...How could somebody indulge in such an inhuman and horrific act. This amounts to playing with the lives of people and cannot be tolerated," he said.
After verifying reports in this regard, Thackeray expelled Khambekar from all party posts with immediate effect and also warned his partymen to refrain from indulging in unlawful activities.
MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar said five persons, including the expelled leader and a local BJP corporator, were allegedly involved in dumping poisonous chemicals into the Kham river in Aurangabad in a bid to save transport costs to dispose it at a specified place in Thane.
