Varghese called on Yadav, who was in the national capital today, and invited him for a seminar to be held in Melbourne in October. He emphasised on improving bilateral relations between the two countries and with Uttar Pradesh in particular.

"During the meeting, the Australian envoy said his country could coordinate with UP institutes like IIT, Kanpur and work on improving the quality of water of rivers in the state. He also discussed proposals for technology transfer between Australia and the state in the field of energy, solar energy, agriculture and agricultural research," the UP government said in a statement.

Varghese also discussed possibilities of cooperation in food processing and trade, coal, science and technology.

The Australian High Commissioner also informed Yadav about the connection between Canberra and UP capital Lucknow. The Griffin couple which designed the Australian capital had spent several years in Lucknow and also designed some of the local buildings including the library of Lucknow University.

Canberra will celebrate 100 years of its formation and this detail about its history will be highlighted during the programmes, Varghese told Yadav.
