Errant Indian pacer Sreesanth and two other bowlers from Rajasthan Royals team were arrested in a post-midnight operation in Mumbai yesterday by Delhi Police for spot-fixing IPL matches for payments of up to Rs 60 lakhs just for giving away pre-determined number of runs in an over.
"Beneath the glitz, glamour and hype so plastic you could wrap your sandwiches in it, the Indian Premier League is a smouldering cesspit," the 'Herald Sun' said.
"They come out after dark at the notorious IPL parties where all involved can pluck a girl, a drink or maybe something a little stronger if that is your wish.
"The lights are dim, the music loud, the drinks strong, cold and plentiful. Famous faces flash past in the shadows," the paper further said.
A special cell of the Delhi police arrested Sreesanth and his teammates -- Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan -- for indulging in spot-fixing in at least three IPL matches as per arrangements with bookies who have underworld connections abroad.
Sreesanth's annual IPL salary of USD 681,000 could have bought him three or four large houses in his home region of Kerala but he wanted more. In these days of rampant indulgence, enough is never enough.
