Litterateurs and common people could come together to prevent suicides by farmers in Maharashtra, president of 89th Marathi literary meet Sripal Sabnis has said.
"It may not be proper to organise functions like literary meets in the view of a large number of suicides by farmers, but I feel that litterateurs and people of the society could create a group to prevent such incidents," Sabnis, president of the 89th 'Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan', said here yesterday.
The meet is slated to be held at Pimpari-Chinchwad in Pune next year.
Sabnis was felicitated by the Nashikroad unit of Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad.
"Since I am the son of a farmer, I have seen problems of farmers very closely," he said.
