Auto drivers, operators protest DC order

Autorickshaw owners and drivers in the Dakshina Kannada district have decided to stage a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office tomorrow demanding the withdrawal of the order reducing minimum fare from Rs 25 to Rs 20.
The notification for fare revision was issued by the Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim on January 9.
Autorickshaw owners and drivers had sought a minimum fare at Rs 23 as against Rs 20 while retaining additional per km fare at Rs 13, which was turned down by the DC.
Autorickshaw operators, in a release here, said only the fuel prices had come down, but the living costs remained high. The operators said they would withdraw rickshaw service in the city till the their demand was met.
