Ashish A Kalra (38), who worked as the branch manager with Bafna Motors in Bhiwandi area of Thane, was arrested last night, Narpoli police station sub-inspector S T Jumle said.
During the last six months, the accused had collected around Rs six lakh from as many as 16 customers, who had purchased commercial vehicles from the company, for RTO registration, Jumle said quoting a complaint filed in this regard by one of the company's directors, S M Khan.
The aggrieved customers approached the company and it was found that the accused had misappropriated the money and not deposited it into the company account for registration of vehicles.
He was subsequently arrested and charged under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the IPC, the sub-inspector said adding that the Narpoli police was further probing the case.
