Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today asked the members of weaker sections to come forward and avail educational facilities which will open the door for their development.
She said the city government was setting up a residential school for SC, ST, OBC and minorities and orphan children to provide free education, boarding and lodging facilities.
"The members of the weaker sections should come forward to avail educational facilities to enable then to make use of all available opportunities like other communities," Dikshit said.
"This is going to be the best tribute to the architect of our Constitution, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar as he dreamt of imparting education to each and every dalit child," she said while paying tribute to Ambedkar on his 122 birth anniversary.
She said Ambedkar had given the country the best Constitution in the world "which helped us in protecting and nurturing our valued democratic system."
The Chief Minister also awarded two dalit children for scoring highest marks in the senior secondary examination.
Kumari Anjali and Aashish were presented awards in a function called 'Prerna Divas' organised by Delhi Commission for Safai Karamcharis to mark the birth anniversary Ambedkar.
The award, instituted by the Commission, carries Rs10,000 in cash, a memento and certificate for the students while shawls for their parents.
