Bollywood celebrities including Shekhar Kapur and Shruti Haasan have mourned the death of legendary British singer-songwriter David Bowie, who has died after battling cancer for 18 months.
Bowie died yesterday just two after his 69th birthday.
Shruti, who learned music at the Musicians Institute in California, wrote, "RIP David Bowie thank you for the amazing music, art and inspiration."
"Put the Bowie greatest hits album on - pay your tribute. Thank you for the music good sir!," Vir Das wrote.
Kapur said, "Goodbye #DavidBowie... You defined a generation and left us. Always rebellious. Always redefining music. Always provocative."
Music composer Vishal Dadlani and Ehsaan Noorani could not believe that the singer died.
"Bloody hell! #DavidBowie gone! I don't have the words to express my shock and anguish, today! All I can do, I hope it's a hoax!"
"Unbelievable -#DavidBowie -#TheManWhoFellToEarth has gone into the light thank you for the inspired music," Ehsaan wrote.
One of the most influence musical artistes of his generation, Bowie was known for his chameleon-like qualities as a performer that often blurred the lines between genders in an illustrious career that spanned four decades.
Actor Ranvir Shorey wrote, "Sad to see you go, @DavidBowieReal. Style Icon. Musical genius. Legend. RIP."
"To the genius that is -#davidbowie ...Thank you for being you. You gave us all so much for so long. RIP dear Starman! Sad day... An idol gone," wrote the "Rang De Basanti" star Siddharth.
