A DNA report has helped crack the baby swapping case that rocked MKCG Medical College and Hospital here two months ago.
The hospital authorities yesterday handed over the baby girl to Priyadarshini and Anil Biswasray after the DNA report confirmed that they were the rightful parents.
"The DNA report was received and it confirmed that the baby belonged to the Biswasray couple. We have handed over the baby to them," said Medical Superintendent A K Behera.
He said departmental action would be initiated against the nurse and three junior doctors who were on duty at the time the babies were swapped.
"We are very happy to get our baby," said Anil and his wife Priyadarshini, residents of Hinjili.
Two months ago, the hospital authorities handed over the baby girl to Sunita and Sibaram Basantia of Sunathara village and informed Biswasray that their baby boy had died.
Meanwhile, Sibaram complained that his wife Sunita delivered a boy on February 20.
The Biswasray couple also lodged a complaint with the police that the girl, who was in Sunita's possession, might be theirs, as some medical staff had said Priyadarshini gave birth to a girl on February 21.
Both the babies were on the same bed at SNCU and suffering from jaundice after they were born.
Acting on complaints, police launched an investigation along with the hospital authorities and concluded after the DNA test that the girl belonged to Biswasray couple.
Sunita, on the otherhand, delivered a boy who died, Behera said.
