Badal anti-Dalit, anti-weaker section: Punjab CLP leader

Punjab Congress Legislature Party leader Charanjit Singh Channi today accused Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of not giving representation to the members of Dalit and other weaker sections in the state's public service commission and information commission.
"It was shocking that majority of the population was going unrepresented in such high offices. There could be no bigger proof of Badal being anti-Dalit and anti-weaker sections than his rejection of the proposal to give representations to the have-nots," Channi said, after Badal rejected his proposal to give representation to the members from Dalit and other weaker sections in Punjab Public Service Commission and State Information Commission.

He said he had called on Badal to personally take up the issue.
The state government had recently initiated the process to fill up the vacant posts in these two commissions.
Channi, who is part of the selection committees for the two commissions as Leader of Opposition, had pointed out that none of the existing members of these two commissions were from dalits or other weaker sections who are about 60 per cent of the state's total population.
The selection committees comprises three members each, including the Chief Minister and the Leader of the Opposition.
Badal rejected Channi's recommendations when he met him, saying the decision had already been taken.

Channi recorded his dissent when the files were sent to him as none of those being appointed was from dalit community or backward classes.
