Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today made a fervent appeal to the Congress legislators to join the House proceedings of the Vidhan Sabha when it resumes tomorrow.
Badal requested the opposition MLAs to end their sit-in and said, "I am really pained by the inconvenience which you have had to go through here and request you to end it right away".
Punjab Congress MLAs have refused to vacate the Assembly even after spending the night in the House and stuck to their demand of a debate on the no-confidence motion moved by the party against the state government.
The Chief Minister went over personally to Punjab Vidhan Sabha around noon to meet the Congress legislators and made his "sincerest and most humble" request.
He said that he had come to them with utmost humility as Leader of the House. He said he was deeply pained by the sequence of events and requested the legislators to accept his plea end the matter amicably in the true spirit of democracy.
"I appeal to you with folded hands, both in my personal capacity and as Leader of the House to join the proceedings of the House as it resumes tomorrow. In the end, we are all here to perform our duties in the House as representatives of the people who have sent us here," he said.
The Chief Minister said that he would have come even earlier but for the delay in formalities regarding permission from the honourable speaker as he was visiting a hospital for a checkup.
Badal was with the Congress legislators for about 25 minutes before he came back expressing the hope that his sincerest request would be heeded to in the spirit in which it was meant.
