Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said that the anti-farmer's stance of the Congress led UPA government at the centre has broken the back bone of the farmers in the state.
Addressing a gathering at the oath administering ceremony of the newly elected Sarpanchs and Panchs of Mansa district here today, the Chief Minister said that due to the exorbitant hike in costs of agricultural inputs coupled with the non-remunerative prices, the agonies Punjab farmers have increased manifolds.
The chief minister said that with agriculture no longer remaining a profitable venture the farmers were on crossroads and claimed the Union government was not doing anything for mitigating their woes.
Unfolding his vision for the overall development of the state in coming years, Badal said that the state government has chalked out a comprehensive strategy for developing the urban and rural areas of Punjab.
Reiterating that the state government was committed for solving the problems of each and every strata of society, Badal said that holistic development of the every section of society was the main target of state government.
Lashing out at Congress party, he alleged that the Congress has always ignored the interests of the Scheduled Caste communities and has always treated them as its vote bank without bothering about their well being.
