CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta today took potshots at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over government's efforts to get FDI and said India should stop looking at the US and other countries for help.
After an all-party meeting convened by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Dasgupta told reporters, "I have made the statement that this government is looking only for foreign funds.
"I have said that (US President Barack) Obama may recommend to the Nobel Committee to make Dr Manmohan Singh a Nobel laureate. He can do that generosity but will never send funds to rescue India from its own crisis."
The CPI MP said in the present scenario, the government must find its own resources to tackle the situation and not look at US and other countries for funds.
The opposition parties have been critical of the government's efforts to get funds through the FDI route.
Dasgupta said he had expressed concern during the all-party meeting over American surveillance.
The issue of US surveillance has become a topic of discussion after the revelations made by Edward Snowden, former NSA contractor and now a whistleblower.
He also raised the issue of government's contention that the number of people below the poverty line has come down.
