: Protesting against the Yettinahole river diversion project costing more than Rs 13,000 crore, Belthangadi and surrounding areas near here observed a bandh today.
The bandh was called by several organisations supporting the agitation to pressurize the Government to drop the controversial project.
The stir was against destruction of the ecologically sensitive Western Ghats for the project, according to organisers.
Educational institutions and business establishments in the area remained closed. Movement of KSRTC and private buses was interrupted due to the bandh, police sources said. The blockades in certain places were removed, they said.
