Bandhan-Konnagar, an NGO founded by Bandhan Bank MD Chandra Sekhar Ghosh, today said its Targetting the Hardcore Poor (THP) program has benefited nearly 70,000 families in several states.

"We have able to benefit around 70,000 families in states like West Bengal, Rajasthan and Jharkhand," Ghosh said on the occasion of Bandhan Development Day.

Talks were on with other states like Odisha and Bihar as government support was needed, he said. "There is a need to scale up the project".

Ghosh said the idea was to convert one person from the poorest of the poor families into a successful entrepreneur.

"From the start, the idea was to eliminate poverty and create employment generation," he said.

Later, speaking at an event organised by Little Laureates, a pre-school chain from the east, Ghosh said that there was need to provide financial inclusion among the poor so that they do not fall prey into the hands of money lenders.
