A Chatterjee (30), a local resident who was supposed to board a flight to Bangkok, was intercepted by the on-duty CISF personnel at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBI), officials said.
During his frisking, the CISF officials found that something was concealed in his bag and, hence, the passenger was subjected to a thorough check.
A total of 13,800 Euros, USD 1,04,850, Yen 23,59,000, Riyal 41,800 and Thai Baht 3,280 were recovered from the passenger. He could not furnish any reliable document to say why he was taking the currency abroad, they said
Chatterjee was travelling to Bangkok, he added.
The value of the seized foreign currency was about Rs one crore, he said.
Last week, in a similar instance, a man bound for Bangkok was held at this airport for allegedly taking out foreign currency worth Rs 19 lakh.
