The court of special CBI judge V S Murkute awarded the punishment to Central Bank of India's chief manager Surendra Kumar Gupta here yesterday. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on him.

The CBI, Nagpur branch, had registered a case against Gupta, on a complaint lodged by one Sanjeev Agrawal that the bank official had demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 for issuing a possession warrant for taking possession of a flat purchased by the complainant on June 11, 2007.

Gupta, who was then posted at the debt recovery tribunal (DRT) in Nagpur as recovery officer, was caught while demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 from Agrawal.

After investigation, CBI had filed the charge sheet on June 6, 2008 in the case.
