Banknotes, coins, security paper output up 9-11% in Apr-Jan

Security Printing & Minting Corporation of India raised production of bank notes, coins, security papers by 9-11 per cent during the April-January period of 2013-14.
Also, the production of security inks rose by 20 per cent up to January 2014 as compared to the year-ago period.
"Security Printing & Minting Corporation of India Ltd (SPMCIL) enhances production of bank notes, coins and security paper by 9-11 per cent and security inks by 20 per cent in the first ten months up to January 2014 in the current fiscal 2014-15 vis-a-vis the same period last year of 2013," an official statement said.
The two currency note presses of SPMCIL have produced 665 crore pieces of bank notes during April-January over 596.6 crore pieces produced in the same period year ago, reflecting a rise of 9.78 per cent.
SPMCIL has targeted to produce 800 crore pieces of bank notes this year against the production of 742.1 crore pieces last year.
Four mints of SPMCIL produced 614.3 crore pieces of coins during this period, up 11.06 per cent from year ago.
SPMCIL has targeted to produce 760 crore pieces of coins this year against the production of 670.8 crore pieces last year.
In case of security paper, it produced 267.5 tonnes of bank note paper against production of 245.3 tonnes a year ago, an increase of 9.05 per cent.
It aims to produce 330 tonnes of security paper in 2013-14 over 295.5 tonnes last fiscal.
At its ink factory, the company produced the highest ever production of 496 tonne ink till January, over 484 tonnes a year ago.
"SPMCIL has targeted to produce 600 tonne of security inks by the year end. SPMCIL has become self-sufficient in the production of security printing inks to minimise the menace of counterfeit bank notes as per the recommendations of the Standing Committee of Finance.
