Purohit, who has been appointed as the Tamil Nadu Governor, was seen off at the airport by Sonowal, who presented him the traditional gamosa, a chelleng sador (traditional costume) and a xorai (an offering tray with a stand).
Deputy Speaker Dilip Kumar Paul, ministers Chandra Mohan Patowary, Parimal Suklabaidya, Rihon Daimary, Ranjit Dutta, Chief Secretary V K Pipersenia and Director General of Police Mukesh Sahay were present.
Purohit had assumed charge as the governor of Assam on August 22 last year and will now take up the gubernatorial post in Tamil Nadu. Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Jagdish Mukhi is the new Assam governor.
