The seventh edition of Barefoot, the biggest sports quiz festival in India, was held in the Capital over January 8 and 9 at the Financial Management Studies campus.
Quizzers from all across India gathered to compete in five different competitions, with some travelling from as far as Kerala for the event.
The highlight of the festival was a thrilling climax in the football quiz, Among the Thugs, where two-time champion Bharathan Chandrasekharan's team was bested by Kishuk Biswas, Shouvik Guha and Pratyush Jha.
The contest went down to the wire and the victory was sealed only on the penultimate question. The subsequent high-fives and joyous cheers showed what it meant to the first-time Barefoot football quiz winners.
Aniket Mishra, the founder of Barefoot, was pleased with the response generated by the festival in the quizzing community.
"The festival has been going on for six and a half years now. Over the course of time, we have managed to reach out to the best sports quizzers. That's very satisfying. To be honest, the joy that one would derive as a quizmaster - of getting his questions answered, of the quiz being competitive - is optimum in a festival like Barefoot, where the really good quality participants come in. It's pretty amazing what we have managed to pull off, year after year."
The festival also featured a rare women in sports quiz, Grace and Glory, which was partly conducted by a female quizmaster Aakriti Mehrotra.
The winners of the quizzes:
When Pride Still Mattered, Open Sports Quiz -
Kinshuk Biswas, Shouvik Guha and Pratyush Jha
