Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today said the state has a large swath of barren land and efforts could be made to make it arable through watershed programme.
The barren land could be irrigated through successful initiation of watershed programme, he said, adding this would help in conservation of water as well as its irrigation.
Chairing a meeting at the state secretariat, Das called for setting up an authority to work on watershed programme in mission mode like the ongoing efforts for water conservation, an official release said here.
State Drinking Water & Sanitation Minister Chandraprakash Choudhary, Rural Development Minister Nilkanth Singh Munda, Agriculture Minister Randhir Singh, Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma, Development Commissioner Amit Khare and several other officials were present during the meeting.
Earlier in the day, Das, while chairing the 'Jan Samvad Kendra' on its first anniversary, appealed to make conservation of water into 'Jan Andolan (people's movement)".
