Leading specialty chemicals company BASF today opened a new innovation campus in Navi Mumbai which will serve the entire Asia Pacific region.
The 50-million euro facility is the German firm's largest campus in South Asia.
"The new innovation campus at Turbhe (Navi Mumbai) marks our largest R&D investment in South Asia. The project involves an investment of up to 50 million euros and can house around 300 researchers/scientists," BASF India Chairman and Managing Director Raman Ramachandran told reporters here.
The facility will expand the company's existing R&D activities in the country and undertake global and regional research on a wide range of specialty chemicals, he said.
BASF is also expanding its R&D network, especially to customers and market needs at an early stage. Mumbai will be another regional innovation hub for the company, Vice-Chairman of the Board Martin Brudermueller said.
The campus, which includes labs for chemical synthesis, application and process development as well as analytics, will bring together top scientists from India and other parts of the world, he said.
The chemicals manufacturing firm sees growing demand for innovative solutions in many industries here, including automotive and food & nutrition, he said.
BASF has invested around 300 million euros in the country over the past four years in manufacturing and R&D, BASF board member Sanjeev Gandhi said.
BASF India employs 2,356 employees at its 10 production sites and 10 offices as well as two R&D centres at Mumbai and Mangaluru.
