Days after the lawyers of Debt Recovery Appellate Tribunal (DRAT) Bar Association abstained from work, the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) has written to the Centre seeking immediate removal of the tribunal's Chairman and Presiding Officer for their alleged misbehaviour.
In a letter to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, BCD Chairman K K Manan has urged government for its intervention and action to remove Justice Ranjit Singh, Chairperson, DRAT (Delhi) and Harcharan Singh, Presiding officer, Debt Recovery Tribunal (Chandigarh).
The lawyers of the DRAT Bar Association are on an indefinite strike since July 1 to protest against the alleged misbehaviour and incapacity of Justice Ranjit Singh and Harcharan Singh, and demanded an enquiry and suspension of the two officers.
"I am forwarding herewith a representation submitted by B S Nagar, President, DRAT Bar Association, seeking redressal of their grievances. The issue is very serious and concerning the legal fraternity as a whole and requires your immediate intervention," Manan said in the letter.
"There have been multiple instances of misbehaviour by the officers with most of lawyers, hindering and incapacitating the judicial procedure. The association has reached out to complain with all prescribed offices and authorities against it before taking the decision of going on strike," DRAT Bar Association has said in a release.
