According to Election Commission's record, Bedi was issued separate voter identity cards with addresses in Uday Park and Talkatora Lane. When asked about the issue, Bedi refused to comment.
Election Commission officials said procuring two voter identity cards was a "violation" and the entire issue is being inquired. They said the Commission was examining whether Bedi had applied for cancellation of the first card with Talkatora Lane as her address.
"We are inquiring into the issue and a final conclusion will be arrived at soon. Having two voter cards is a violation of law," said a senior election official.
He indicated that legal action may be initiated if it is found that Bedi has not applied for cancellation of one of her two voter identity cards.
The card with the Uday Park address carries the voter ID number TZD1656909 whereas the other one with the address 2 Kothi, Talkatora Lane has the number SJE0047969. Bedi has mentioned Uday Park in her nomination papers as her residential address.
While AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal demanded a thorough probe into the alleged violation by Bedi, Congress sought criminal action against her. "It should be investigated," Kejriwal said.
Chief Spokesperson of DPCC Mukesh Sharma said criminal case should be registered against Bedi for violation of law.
"A criminal case should be filed against Kiran Bedi for gross violation of law. We demand strong action against her," he said.
An AAP spokesperson said "BJP President Amit Shah had claimed that AAP voters' have multiple entries in the voters' list. Clearly they didn't check their facts.
