Beedi workers call off stir

The indefinite dharna launched by the beedi workers association here was called off today following assurance by the managements that DA would be paid to the workers according to the agreement in force.
The managements had earlier promised a hike of Rs 21.15 per 1,000 beedies tied with effect from April, 2014. The workers began the agitation two days back after the managements failed to implement the assurance given to them.
The dharna was held before the Bharath Beedi office at Kadri near here with the support of various labour organisations. Protest rallies were also taken out by workers in different parts of the district.

The strike was called off following the meeting between the owners and Labour Commissioner in which the managements agreed to pay the raised DA by September, official sources said.
