'Better job opportunities for ex-servicemen in private sector'

Director General of Resettlement Major General Amrik Singh today said an increasing number of ex-servicemen were joining the corporate sector as it was providing them better jobs than the public sector.
About 60,000 defence personnel are retiring every year in the country, of them only 10,000 to 15,000 manage to get government jobs either in the central or the state services under the provision of reservation, Singh said.
"The government schemes are not enough to resettle all retiring defence personnel," he said while speaking to reporters on the second day of conclave of Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW) and corporate sector.

Singh said 32 private corporate companies were holding one-to-one negotiations with ex-servicemen having skills in technical field and administrative areas.
About 1.70 lakh ex-servicemen of the three wings of defence forces -- Army, Air Force and Navy -- were registered with DESW and about 500 of them were participating in the conclave, the Director General of Resettlement said.
Inaugurating the conclave yesterday, GOC-In-Chief South West Command Lt General Arun Kumar Sahani said the focus of conclave was to highlight the competencies of ex-servicemen, explore employment opportunities in Rajasthan and share the aspirations of retired security personnel.
