The wild life warden Suvarnappan told PTI that the elephants were migrating for two reasons-- now it is mating season for them, and they are also migrating to safeguard their calves as pilgrims started flowing into Kerala area for worshipping Lord Ayappa.
He said, "The elephants have been seen with their calves, and they will be aggressive in protecting their young ones. The People in the adjoining areas should be careful and should not cross into their pathway or area."
The check posts had been erected and the forest personnel had been deployed to monitor the movement of animals.
He also said that the under pretext of livelihood, the farmers should not cause any harm to the wild animals.
The farmers should not in any way disturb the wild animals intheir native sites.
The census of wild animals would be taken up next month, but even before that a rough estimate of the wild animals show their numbers had significantly increased due to good rains.
