Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti today lauded the work carried out by Indian PSU WAPCOS Ltd in Afghanistan, and urged it to work along with her department in its 'Namami Gange' programme with "full vigour".
Bharti showered praises on the public sector undertaking, under the Ministry of Water Resources, during a dividend and bonus share payment ceremony of the company held here.
The company has been engaged in reconstruction and completion of the neighbouring country's Salma Dam project.
The project, after completion, is expected to benefit people residing in Afghanistan's western region through water and power availability, besides earning goodwill for India.
"Bharti praised the work carried out by WAPCOS Ltd in Afghanistan under adverse circumstances. The minister urged WAPCOS to join her Ministry in Namami Gange Programme with full vigour," the ministry said in a statement.
Earlier during the event, WAPCOS Ltd CMD RK Gupta presented dividend cheque of Rs 16.50 crore, highest by the company since its inception in 1969, for the year 2014-2015 and bonus shares of Rs 10 crore to the Union Minister.
The company achieved its highest ever gross income of Rs 928.30 crore, profitability of Rs 111.05 crore and secured new business of Rs 1,375.92 crore during the fiscal.
The net worth of WAPCOS, which provides consultancy services in water resources, power and infrastructure sector, has reached Rs 309.31 crore.
According to the ministry, WAPCOS is eligible for "excellent" rating on the basis of its performance in all financial and dynamic parameters under MOU such as turnover, profitability, new business, projects implementation, customer satisfaction, human resource management, etc.
The company forayed and forged ahead to secure new business in several Asian and African countries, facilitating strengthening of bilateral relations between India and other nations. WAPCOS is now planning to increase its operations in Latin America and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, it said.
