Nearly 12,000 cusecs of water was being released from Pilloor Dam as its level stood at 98 feet this morning against its maximum of 100 feet, resulting in heavy flow in Bhavani River, they said.
People living in on the banks of the river in Mettupalayam, Nellithurai and Sirumugai had been asked to move to safer places.
The neighbouring hilly Nilgiris district continued to receive good rains since last night, they said.
