The Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) today urged the state Home Department to immediately transfer its controversial Superintendent of Police Amitabh Kumar Das, who had alleged that Union Minister Giriraj Singh had links with the outlawed Ranveer Sena.
Departmental action against Das, who had been showcaused on Monday, was also recommended for violating the service rules and conduct, BHRC secretary Anand Vardhan Sinha wrote to Home Secretary Amir Subhani.
The decision to take action against Das was taken at the full body meeting of BHRC, comprising its Chairperson Justice (retd) Bilal Nazki and members Justice (retd) Mandhata Singh and former DGP, Neelmani.
"Das has to be immediately removed from the post of BHRC SP as his continuation is not desirable for the functioning of the Commission. The department may take whatever else action it deems fit against the officer," the BHRC letter to the Home secretary said.
A day after Giriraj Singh was made Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Das wrote a letter to the Special Branch.
"The central minister has sweet relations with Ranveer Sena. Singh glorified its chief Bramheshwar Singh 'Mukhiya' and called him a follower of Gandhi, when he was shot dead (on June 1, 2012 by unidentified gunmen). The Minister also visited Mukhiya's native village and paid tribute to him. This is a serious matter and it should be given to the IB," Das had said in the letter.
In the show cause notice to Das, he was asked to clarify his position within seven days and reasons for misusing the letterhead and logo of BHRC to give an impression that his opinion was the Commission's opinion.
Das submitted his reply to the BHRC yesterday saying he was duty-bound as an IPS officer to inform about it and provide intelligence inputs. He also asserted that he had used the BHRC letterhead as it was an official letter.
"The Commission was not satisfied with the reply and took it a breach of trust, conduct and service requirements," a BHRC official said.
The Commission also did not take lightly the way Das had aired his views in the media, though he was neither the BHRC spokesperson, nor had any authority to correspond to or interact with the media or other government departments, the official said.
The BJP had also demanded suspension of Das.
