Reliance Media Works is expanding the base of its multiplex arm Big Cinemas by adding up to 50 screens in southern and eastern regions within a year.
Big Cinemas is part of the Reliance ADAG group.
"We are expanding at Coimbatore, Vizag, Chennai, Bangaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata in East. We are looking to add up to 50 screens in next one year. They would be three screen and five screen theatres," Reliance Media Works Chief Executive Officer Venkatesh Roddam told PTI.
However, he did not share investment details.
Big Cinemas currently operates 280 screens in India, he said. It also operates 151 screens in the US market.
Apart from Big cinemas, the company is also looking at expanding its two other segments - film and media services and television programming.
Besides, it is adding four more studios.
"Right now we have four studios and we are adding four more by August. They all are in the film city Mumbai," Roddam said.
Reliance Media Works has three segments -- Film and Media services, Big Synergy and Big Cinemas.
Reliance Film and Media services provides creative and media services, film production and post-production services, while Big Synergy provides studio based and interactive shows.
It has produced Indian versions of international hit shows as Kaun Banega Crorepati (Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, Sach Ka Saamna (Moment Of Truth) and Dus Ka Dum (Power Of Ten) among others.
On film releases, Roddam said the firm will have 35 releases in next six months, including 20 in Hindi.
