The Bihar Legislative Council failed to discharge any business for the fourth consecutive day today as members of the treasury as well opposition BJP continued to create ruckus in the house over different issues.
The House could not transact any business in the morning session due to pandemonium created by ruling JD(U) members over controversial remarks of Haryana BJP leader O P Dhankar about brides from Bihar for Haryana boys, recovery of Rs 1.14 crore purportedly stolen from BJP MP Giriraj Singh and alleged neglect of Bihar in the Railway budget.
The JD(U) members trooped to the well and continued to raise slogans against the BJP.
When members refused to abide by the direction of Chairman to stop the din, the House was adjourned till 2:30 PM.
Former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is member of the Council was present in the House at that time.
The situation was no better in post-recess session.
As soon as the post-recess session of the Council began and Chairman Awadhesh Prasad Singh took his seat, BJP legislators gathered in the well and started raising slogans over police firing at Rohtas in which two persons were killed and nine others injured on Tuesday.
Amidst the din, Leader of Opposition in the Council, Sushil Kumar Modi started his speech demanding judicial enquiry into the Rohtas firing, Rs 10 lakh compensation and jobs to families of the deceased in addition to suspension of the policemen involved in the firing.
The Chairman repeatedly asked the protesting legislators to return to their seats, but they did not oblige forcing the Chair to adjourn the house till tomorrow.
Both JD(U) and BJP blamed each other for disruption of House proceedings continuously.
"The BJP is behaving like a dictator. Its legislators are holding the Council to ransom. Yesterday there was an all-party meet and everybody agreed that the House should be allowed to function smoothly but today the BJP reneged on it. This is shameful," Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary told reporters.
Sushil Modi, however, blamed the JD(U) for disturbance in the House and said it was unprecedented that members of the treasury bench were demonstrating inside the House.
He alleged that it was being done to shield the government from having to reply on the medicine scam and other serious issues.
