Legislators of all parties except the BJP today brought a proposal in the Legislative Council to prevent neighbouring Jharkhand from enacting a policy which will bar people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh from applying for class III and IV jobs in that state.
JD(U) chief whip in the Council Neeraj Kumar introduced the proposal signed by the members of JD(U), Congress and CPI in the House during Zero Hour.
The proposal urged the House to intervene in the matter and prevent Jharkhand from enacting a domiciliary policy under which class III and IV jobs in the state would be reserved for local residents.
As Neeraj Kumar was reading the proposal, BJP members were busy holding a protest over alleged poor implementation of the Chief Minister's development schemes in the state.
The BJP members raised anti-government slogans and also trooped into Well of the House.
Later, Neeraj Kumar, who is also the state JD(U) spokesman, alleged that BJP members deliberately created din in the House so that the protest against Jharkhand's attempt to bar people from Bihar and UP from applying for class III and class IV jobs in that state, did not get prominence.
He said Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has called an all party meeting tomorrow in this context.
The proposal of the Legislative Council members urged leaders of different political parties in Jharkhand not to support the efforts of BJP government there to draw this "discriminatory" policy, which it said was against the "spirit of the Constitution.
