Bihat govt to construct 131 godowns for foodgrain storage

The state government today approved a proposal for construction of 131 godowns to increase foodgrain storage capacity by 5.50 lakh metric tonne in Bihar, a senior official said.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Principal Secretary (Cabinet Coordination) Brajesh Mehrotra told reporters.
The godowns will be constructed by the Bihar State Building Construction Corporation at an estimated cost of Rs 506.15 crore, a loan for which has been approved by the NABARD under infrastructure development fund to the Bihar State Food and Civil Supplies Corporation, he said.
In another decision, the state government sanctioned Rs 333.64 core to 24 urban local bodies for construction of water supply system, Mehrotra said.
The state government has also approved Rs 24 crore for installation of automatic digital machine to record underground
water table in all blocks and district headquarters, he said.
The state government further granted Rs 48.54 crore for implementation of the Indira Gandhi Maternity Benefit scheme in 4,695 Anganwadi Centres under 28 child development projects in Vaishali and Saharsa districts during the current fiscal, he added.
