Lt Col Bikramjeet Singh, who died in today's twin terror attack in the Jammu region, was shot in the stomach at a close range when terrorists attacked the 16 Cavalry unit in Samba.
The officer, who was unarmed, was going from the officers' mess to the adjacent residential area, where his family was residing, sources said here.
The gun shots, fired from close range, proved fatal for the officer, who was the second-in-command of the unit.
Bikramjeet, who hailed from Chandigarh, had joined the elite Armoured Corps after passing out from the prestigious Indian Military Academy in December 1998.
