Birender Singh to chair Steel Consumers' Council meeting

Union Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh will chair a meeting of Steel Consumers' Council tomorrow which will focus on innovative ideas for growth of the sector, at a time when domestic steel industry facing challenging external conditions.
"I will chair the meeting of Steel Consumers' Council in Mumbai tomorrow. Focus will be on innovative ideas towards growth of steel sector," the steel minister said in a tweet.
According to an official the meeting would provide a vibrant platform to discuss the domestic steel industry scenario, the global steel trends and benefits of using steel and also on how to boost the domestic steel consumption.
The meeting would be attended by representatives of various ministries, several industry associations, producers and consumers of iron and steel Industry, house builders and related industries, industry experts and steel makers including SAIL and Tata Steel, the official said.
There has been continued thrust from the government to boost domestic steel consumption by exploring the versatile steel uses.
The steel ministry has also chalked out the road-map for the resilient steel sector, the official added.
Today the steel industry in India faces challenging external conditions manifest in slow economic growth and idle steel capacity globally.
With weak global economic prospects, the Indian steel industry will have to strongly depend on the growth of domestic consumption for its future.
