Official sources said that the HRD ministry had sought the nod of President Pranab Mukherjee to appoint Birla, chairman of the Aditya Birla group, to head the Board of Governors of the prestigious institute.
It is learnt that the President, who is the Visitor of these institutes, has approved Birla's nomination. Sources said that Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Cadila Pharmaceuticals Rajiv I Modi is also set to appointed as the Chairperson of the Board of Governors of IIT-Guwahati.
The HRD ministry has been keen to strengthen the industry-academia partnership and hopes that the eminent persons, once appointed as the head of the Board of Governors of these technology institutes will bring a fresh look and perspective, officials said.
