With the Narendra Modi government nearing completion of a year in office, BJP today directed its spokespersons to hard sell and showcase the Centre's public welfare programmes.
Designed to counter opposition Congress' accusations of the government being "anti-poor", BJP's public outreach strategy will see its leaders highlight the government's achievements, starting with the three recently-launched social welfare schemes.
Addressing party spokespersons from across the country, BJP President Amit Shah said the NDA regime was "a government visible on the ground". He also said that there has been no charges of corruption against the government, unlike in the past regime when a scam would crop up every now and then.
The day-long workshop organised for party spokespersons from across the country was addressed by top leaders including Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Nitin Gadkari, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Nirmala Sitharaman.
The spokespersons were told about the various initiatives taken by government for public welfare during the first year, and "the good work done by the government for the poor and deprived sections of society during the first year to take the nation forward", BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said.
Leaders also criticised Congress for its "anti-growth" and "anti-development" stand and said that Congress has tried to create a negative atmosphere and stall fast development in the country as it was opposing its own bills in Parliament.
While Finance Minister Arun Jaitley talked of various reform measures initiated to ensure fast development and how Congress was opposing them, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj talked about how the country's prestige has been enhanced across the world.
The leaders also talked about Modi's acceptability both in the country and abroad. Speedy progress in defence sector along with bringing in transparency was also highlighted.
Shah also said its 10.5 crore members had started fanning out across the country and would reach out to the public to take the various initiatives and programmes of the government to every individual at the grassroots.
Listing out the achievements, the leaders talked about the insurance cover for poor, Mudra bank and various public welfare schemes for the poor, besides checking inflation and propelling growth.
