Holding National Conference and Congress responsible for the delay in the elections to the Urban Local Bodies in the state, the BJP today said that it was the previous BJP-PDP government that had set in motion the process for holding these polls.
"NC-Congress coalition was responsible for delaying elections on one pretext or the other. The previous BJP-PDP coalition government had initiated the process for holding these elections," state BJP president Sat Sharma said.
The party today held a meeting to discuss the forthcoming ULB elections which was attended among others by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta.
The BJP president said that the decision of the government to hold elections to ULBs, including Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Municipal Committees, is a welcome step as it will further strengthen democracy at the grassroots level and enable the people to have easy access to their elected representatives.
He said elections to these bodies were not held after 2010 and BJP had been demanding holding these for long.
Sharma said the party in the state had registered repeated splendid victories in Lok Sabha, Assembly and LAHDC elections and now it will write history by winning the ULBs well as panchayat elections.
