South Delhi Municipal Corporation Commissioner Manish Gupta today came under attack from both BJP and Congress on issues ranging from procurement of super sucker machine for cleaning drains to appointment of assistant sanitary inspectors.
Leader of the opposition Farhad Suri charged the commissioner of failing to take action against officials who allegedly provided him with false information at least thrice regarding construction of a railway under bridge in Jungpura area.
"The construction of Railway Under Bridge between Siddharth Basti to Jangpura B was held up due to non payment of dues to railways. When I asked for funds to be released, I was informed that money under that head was for procurement of two super-sucker machines," Suri said.
Presenting the reply received to his query regarding the purchase of this machine from the engineering department before the house, he added that no such amount had been paid.
"The reply clearly states that the new machine shall be received in July 2013 and no advance payment till date has been made. Then why was I told by a certain official in the presence of the commissioner that the money could not be released? The councillors are being duped by officials in this manner," Suri said.
Gupta while admitting that such an interaction had indeed taken place, assured the councillor of an investigation into the matter and action against the concerned official.
Taking the commissioner to task was Leader of the House Subhash Arya who asked what action should be taken against him for inability to appoint assistant sanitary inspectors to the vacant positions.
"Every time a meeting is held on the issue, we are told it will happen soon but the same condition persists even today. What action should be taken against the commissioner on the issue? Should this be included in his CR or should the house recommend his transfer? We need to discuss this," he said.
