No sooner had the chairman and deputy chairman of the Standing Committee of North Delhi Municipal Corporation been elected today than the issue became a debating point.
After a delegation led by North Mayor Yogender Chandolia called on him, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung had yesterday deferred the sealing order on industrial units in residential areas till a survey and actual status of such entities was carried out by MCD.
"Good days of MCD are not coming, it has already come. The decision to defer the sealing order is a step in this direction and NDMC, too, will serve the people in the best possible manner under the central leadership of Modiji," Chandolia told the House.
Delhi MLAs Ram Kishan Singhal and Mahendra Nagpal, who had left NDMC after winning in the Delhi Assembly polls, too, claimed that the decision was a "victory of the party's work".
"A few days ago, I had sent a short notice to Chandolia to discuss the issue of the sealing of small units. But I was told that such issues were not important. And, now, BJP has suddenly developed sympathy for the bigger industrial units and is calling the LG's decision a result of their work," Goel said.
"BJP has ruled MCD for the last seven years. Why is it saying that good days are coming now? Why weren't the good days here before? What is their report card for the last seven years?" Goel asked.
