A BJP councillor was injured when he was allegedly beaten with iron rods by three unidentified youths in his office here, police said today.
The incident took place last evening when BJP councillor from Ambala Cantonment Board Ajay Baweja was about to leave for home from his office, they said.
The three youths who had their faces covered with a cloth arrived in a car and barged into his office. Two of their accomplices kept a watch outside.
The three accused hit Baweja with iron rods, police said, adding that at the time of the incident the councillor was alone.
The CCTV cameras installed at the premises where the incident took place captured the movements of the accused. A manhunt has been launched to nab them, they said.
An injured Baweja was taken to Civil hospital at Ambala Cantt.
Haryana's Health Minister and Ambala Cantt MLA Anil Vij visited the injured councillor in the hospital.
Vij asked the police officials, who arrived at the hospital to record Baweja's statement, to nab the culprits soon.
Police said a case had been registered under relevant provisions of the law and the matter was being investigated.
They said they were hopeful of making early arrests in the case.
