Hitting out at the above remarks, workers of BJP's state unit today took out a protest which saw them visiting dhabas and restaurants here to demand food at the same price.
Led by state BJP president Laxmi Kant Bajpai, party workers visited eateries around the Darulshafa, GPO, Janpath and Lalbagh areas and asked for a full meal for Rs 5.
He alleged that the Congress leaders who said a full meal costs between Rs 5 and Rs 12 had never seen poverty.
If Congress leaders "have the guts", they should eat a full meal with a poor man, he said.
He wondered whether the SP government agreed with the statements that have fuelled the present row.
"If they disagree with the remarks, they (SP) should immediately stop supporting the UPA government," he said.
