"We are reaping bitter harvest year after year due to the wrong policies of the central government. While the average input cost of wheat is Rs 1,400 per quintal, MSP is mere Rs 1,350. Farmers are bearing a loss of Rs 50 on every quintal," BJP Kisan Morcha president Om Prakash Dhankar said here.
Releasing the list of national office bearers here, Dhankar said the MSP of a crop should be fixed keeping in consideration the profit margin of farmers.
He said the wheat should be at Rs 2,100 per quintal and paddy should be at Rs 2,025 per quintal.
"The government should ensure food security on its own basis and not on the basis of cutting profits for the poor farmers," he added.
Kisan Union members also demanded implementation of the Huda Committee report that has recommended Rs 10,000 per acre for the farmers hit by natural calamity.
